Review of Cthulhu (2008) by Al M — 31 May 2015
It's best to watch Lovecraftian movies without any expectations, that way you can't be dissapointed if it's a not-so-good movie, and this movie isn't great, but it's also not bad. It's an interesting take on the "Shadow Over Innsmouth" story and I've enjoyed this movie.
The movie feels very cheap from time to time and the amateurish acting isn't helping, but once you get past those problems, the story itself and the *sigh* Rivermouth folk are really interesting and while the ending leaves many things unanswered, it's still quite a ride.
There is also quite a lot of scares in it, mainly in the last 30 minutes. All in all, a good Lovecraft movie that delivers an interesting story and atmosphere but also fails due to it's amateur actors and underdeveloped characters.
