Review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016) by Brian C — 29 Feb 2016
I'm happy to see Netflix making more original movies, but the time between this and the original hurt it in two ways: 1) Much of what felt fresh and exciting about the original no longer feels that way.
2) "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" has become so revered and engrained in many people's memories that it makes it impossible for a sequel to live up to it at this point. That being said, I don't think it's a bad movie.
It's perfectly fine. The plot is fairly predictable, and there's a bit of a Western vibe to it, which is a little odd. But the scenery is beautiful and some of the fighting is still really cool and enjoyable.
