Review of Cross of Iron (1977) by David G — 02 Nov 2007
It's all about the violence, but in the most artistically accomplished way you could imagine, the simple use of brutality is such a successful motif in this film, achieving perfectly the films aim; to abhor the audience of the evils of extreme politics, ideology , modern warfare, militarism and society in general the way 19th century thinkers envisaged it; everything for the state (no matter how insane) and the man means nothing.
P.s. subtlety is not a word peckinpah comprehends!.
