Review of CQ (2001) by Matt L — 08 Feb 2008
For a movie just a tick under ninety minutes, this does have some slow bits, mostly in the last third of the film. But CQ is still a fantastic movie about the business of making movies, and what happens when fiction and reality start to comingle. Jeremy Davies plays an aspiring director who ends up working on a 'Barbarella' type film, falling for the lead actress in the process. But he's not really falling for her, he's falling for her fictional counterpart. In a memorable scene that sums up the movie for me, Davies takes the customized movie-car on a car chase through Paris, crashing it.
I must admit, too, that I have a soft spot for the late-sixties movie aesthetic this film so accurately homages. Great stuff.
