Review of Control (2013) by Kimberley M — 26 Nov 2008
Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Just fucking beautiful.
The music, clearly, was fantastic. It was Joy Division, after all. But also Sex Pistols, Bowie, Velvet Underground, and some other great shite.
The performances were spot-on. Sam Riley did a phenomenal job, with special props going to his flawless impression of Ian Curtis's on-stage dance style.
Third, there was great humour. Subtle, which may not appeal to those of you who subscribe solely to slapstick, but it's there and it is effortless.
"We wanted to know if... you know... wanted to... for a bit...".
And lastly, every single moment from this film could be frozen and would make a BEAUTIFUL photograph. But I suppose that will happen when the director is a photographer.
In summary, one of the best films I have seen in the past two years.
