Review of City of Life and Death (2009) by Leila F — 14 Jan 2013
Quite simply, this is the "Schindler's List" for one of the darkest episodes in Chinese-Japanese history, the Rape of Nanking, which took place over the course of six ugly weeks spanning 1937 and '38.
Brutal and relentless, this is not an easy film to watch to be sure, but at the same time it's pretty much a perfect film in every way. R.I.P. to the roughly 300,000 souls who perished in this monstrous massacre.
