Review of Charlie Wilson's War (2007) by Paul C — 18 Jan 2010
Top film! Regardless of the accuracy of the story, (I prefer to take these 'based on a true story' films as works of fiction inspired by real life events and people), this is a well told tale with some fine characters and effective use of stock footage.
Tom Hanks rarely fails to impress and this is one of his best, Julia Roberts makes a fine southern belle (although making her much younger than the real character on which she is based) and Philip Seymour Hoffman gets some of the funniest lines / scenes.
My only grouch is not being able to understand all of the dialogue, (Hanks and Hoffman's accents being hard to follow sometimes), but that is my problem and no criticism of the film.
Great stuff and, even if a portion of it is true, shows how world events are often played out through the attitudes and actions of the few.
