Review of Bugsy Malone (1976) by Steve P — 06 Jun 2007
I was in my 20's when this film first came out, but I ignored it when it was on at the theaters. However, I actually saw it on videotape at a room party at a Science Fiction convention and I fell in love with it. In fact, it was one of the reasons I went out and bought a VCR.
I probably watched this movie way too many times, but the combination of the hokey plot, the Paul Williams soundtrack, and the feel-good ending just had be come back again and again.
I don't pretend to know how this will go over with younger audiences today, but given the you-don't-see-that-everyday combination of elements, I think there's probably something in this movie that everyone can enjoy.
Oh yeah, I'll also admit I really like the Paul Williams songs and I bought a copy of the movie soundtrack back then. I played that way too often as well.
