Review of Broken (2012) by Ingela A — 06 Apr 2013

I'm shocked this movie has such a low rating. I highly recommend people ignore that (I usually take these ratings to be pretty accurate, but I can't disagree more in this case). I got to see Broken at the Cleveland film fest, and it really took me by surprise.

Here is a movie that deals with very gritty, and potentially, overly dark subjects, but manages to balance this with an incredibly likable and natural cast, and quite a bit of humor that makes the darker moments more palatable and allows you to connect with the characters better.

I'm usually not one to tear up during movies, let alone shed some tears, but it's the bittersweet combo this movie gives that really made me feel the feels.
