Review of Borgman (2013) by Afonso N — 19 Jun 2014
Borgman, nominated for the Palme d'Or, is an outlandish home invasion film that follows its titular character Camiel Borgman and a couple of his associates as they complete a series of sinister and often strange tasks all the while tormenting a well-to-do Dutch family.
Like the 1997 movie Funny Games, Borgman surpasses the home invasion genre with its pitch black humor, dark tone and eccentric characters. Defiantly refusing to follow the established rules of the genre and refusing to give the audience any straight answers Borgman is a highly effective film that is destined for cult status.
