Review of Blood and Black Lace (1964) by Mike P — 05 Feb 2007
Blood and Black Lace is a freakin masterpeice! Mario Bava fills this film with vivid colors and beautiful sets. He was a perfectionist, and it shows. He not only handled the direction of the film, he also did the lighting and set designs. He is truly an underrated Director, and thats a big understatment. He influenced everyone from Dario Argento to Francis Ford Coppola. And his name should be mention along with names like Hitchcock, Welles, Coppola, Lynch and any other respected known film director.
Blood and Black Lace is not the first Giallo film. But it is the film which kicked off the Giallo Boom in the 60's and 70's. Yet no other Giallo film it influenced matches the same quality Blood and Black Lace offers. Highly recommended to those who appreciate film as an art form. Its a breath taking film. As gorgeous as it is sleazy and sadistic.
