Welcome to the age of psyhopharmaceuticals...This film IS amazing. I saw it (well most of it) once a few years back at Docs (at UofC). It was an old film and the sound track kept stopping... but it is now back out on DVD and I can't wait to see it again.
As far as melo-dramas go you can't it is fabulous. In my opinion it is one of Ray's best films - even better than "Rebel without a Cause".
