Review of Bergman Island (2006) by Jonathan M — 11 Sep 2009
Bergman Island (2006) This film is an indispensable interview with Ingmar Bergman on Faro Island in Sweden. This is 90 minutes of the orignial 3 hours shown in Swedish TV. I want to see the full version.
Good conversation is punctuated with film clips and photographs, including many from the director's personal archives. He also grants Nyreröd access to his private movies, including 16mm reels taken on the sets of many of his productions.
This documentary covers all the important elements of his most important films. No student of Bergman should remain without seeing this film or the 3 hours version. Fascinating information and conversation from the worlds most celebrated film maker.
five stars.
