Review of Being John Malkovich (1999) by Heiqal K — 31 Mar 2011
It is hard to mix moods -- the film is manic, subtle, comic and vaguely sad -- but Jonze does it masterfully.
A puppeteer (Cusack) finds himself looking for a better job, stumbles a membranous room that leads inside the head of popular screen actor John Malkovich. Desperate to prove his affection towards his co-worker (Keener), he then rents out Malkovich's head to others, eventually letting his wife (Diaz) inside where she falls in love with another woman who, in turn, thinks she has fallen in love with John Malkovich.
