Review of Becket (1964) by Henry G — 11 Jun 2007
The greatest love story ever told, hands down. Burton at the height of his babe-ery and O'Toole plays a king in a style that could only have been topped by Vincent Price. Never a dull moment in this picture, but that's not to say it doesn't take style as seriously as content.
It's a beauty. A bit wordy at times, but the thing that redeems it from becoming too self important with it's monologues about honor and loyalty is the fact that the actors never do seem to be saying what they're really thinking, and there's a great unspoken feeling there that gives it more power than the sum of its verbiage.
