Review of Beasts of No Nation (2015) by Eric S — 02 Feb 2017
Beasts of No Nation is one of those films both beautiful and excruciating: beautifully excruciating, excruciatingly beautiful. I don't think either really captures this movie in its entirety. Rather, I would say that Beasts is beautiful and excruciating in turn, a startling window into the frailties, the necessities, and the longings of our natures, and what these will lead us to do.
Beasts is a desperate film, but it matches it's desperation with poise and wonderful performances from Attah and Elba.
