Review of Battle in Seattle (2007) by Tim J — 02 Oct 2008
Like Medium Cool 40 years ago (and Haskell Wexler is in this somewhere) the movie blends real and recreated riot footage. The film is, above all, earnest about the significance of public disturbance and civil disobedience as a means to speaking out against power on crucial issues.
For that reason it ought to be seen by lots of people. It's well acted and entertaining and informative about the issue of the WTO. The plot is a little conventional for such a disturbing and important event, but I hope against hope that a new generation numbed by the greed, lies, fear, and corruption of American politics can still be inspired to speak out loudly and forcefully.
Well worth seeing. (and follow it with by renting the Chicago 10).
