Review of Automata (2014) by Richard V — 09 Nov 2014
Although it is visually beautiful to look at - especially with the visuals of the robots and the world building - Automata is unfortunately a movie that had a lot of great potential, a true sci-fi epic with a compelling story.
Instead, there are a lot of moments of drag - literally, a good portion of the movie is him being dragged in the desert. And while there was much that could have added to bring the story home, including more uprising robots, other elements could have been removed - like the corporate subplot didn't hit as hard it should have.
It also had an anticlimactic ending that tried to be both compelling and big. Much left to be desired.
