Review of Attack of the Puppet People (1958) by Trent M — 16 Mar 2008
For a movie by Mr. B.I.G., it's not all that bad. The actors, especially Hoyt, work very well and give life to the characters. Instead of relying on back projections for effects, much of the film features giant sets (some of the best I've seen since The Devil-Doll) The editing between shots of Mr.
Franz and his "puppets" is well done and helps the illusion that they are conversing to one another. If you think complementing such a simple editing technique is faint praise, then you've never seen an AIP film.
For those who have, and may be fans, this will be a treat.
