I guess never having read the books is a good thing, as I simply don’t get the hate over this film. It’s absolutely stunning visually. The acting is above average for a Disney film. The story evolves in a largely unpredictable manner.
It’s engaging and fast-paced enough to keep kids attention. It makes a great summer movie to add to Disney’s collection. A child anti-hero would have been difficult (if not impossible) to pull off.
Kids simply engaged in heists to save their parents has been done ad nauseum for decades. Disney ejected to strike a balance with this film and upset the purists.
