Review of An Honest Liar (2014) by Paul B — 06 Aug 2015
One of the great debunkers in history, James Randi is revealed in this documentary lovingly and truthfully, even with some ugliness. I knew most of Randi's history and was fortunate to meet and have extended visits with him about 20 years ago.
He is a true hero of mine. This film presents him as he always has been true to his craft and true to the truth, even when it makes him look bad (as does the segment in which he awkwardly and sadly admits to knowing about the his husband's problems).
It is a loving presentation of Randi and Jose while still laying before the viewer the ethical dilemmas inherent in debunking and personal confidences. I was in tears at the end of this terrific film.
