Review of American Splendor (2003) by Jon B — 03 Feb 2008
This movie kills me every time. Unique mix of biopic and documentary, completely self-aware, cynical as hell and not afraid to take risks. Fantastic jazz and blues soundtrack, brilliant script, and Giamatti NAILS Pekar's mannerisms. This is a film I've seen numerous times and cannot get enough of.
Don't forget to read Pekar's fantastic graphic novels and anthologies -- they will supplement your viewing immensely.
