The best performance of Kevin Spacey's career? Yes it is. The best film of Sam Mendes' career? Ehh, sure, why not. Not bad for a first film I say!! You know you're doing something right if your film wins Best Picture.
American Beauty is one of the best films from the 90's, and that's quite a statement considering the other classics that came from that decade.
