Review of American Assassin (2017) by Brian B — 16 Sep 2017
Not intending to be Bourne, Mission Impossible, or 007.. it is a action film that uses the least interesting of Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp books to bring an origin story for Mitch Rapp. It does this well.
I really hope that the other novels are adapted for future films as audiences will more relate to the characters and narratives from those stories than this. If you are looking for action, suspense, and realism, then this movie is for you.
If not interested, then watch Kingsman when it hits theaters for the fantasy action film that it is intending to be. For me, this scratched the action movie itch without feeling pulled away due to the "it's a just movie, so everything is fantasy" that plagues movies to get viewership with unlimited or non reloading guns, over the top explosions, or nearly invincible protagonists.
Again, it's not Bourne or Bond.. and because of that - I really appreciated and enjoyed American Asssassin. (5/5 B.Bushong 17SEP2017).
