Review of Alien Resurrection (1997) by Paul S — 27 Jun 2011
Boom, goes the dynamite! I don't remember liking this film as a kid. But, I'm going out on a limb here, I think it can compete with Cameron's Aliens in terms of the sheer entertainment value.
Nothing will touch Scott's original, as it's a different type of film altogether from the other three. Yet, like Aliens, Resurrection is one hell of a ride! Terrible story, I hear? Nonsense! Awful cast? Could it be any worse than the amateurs in Aliens? Nope.
Too much comedy? It's dark, really dark, comedy, and most of it comes from Ripley - who is a different person (or thing, or whatever). I simply loved Ripley's untouchable, almost superhero badass, smartass character.
Weaver plays it very well, and it's enjoyable to see her bust Pearlman's balls over and over again. The alpha man put in his place by the baddest lady on film: Ellen Ripley!
