I see all of these negative reviews, and I have to say I 100% disagree. Shyamalan is a movie genius. After Earth, Lady in the Water, The Village, Sixth Sense, everything he produces has deep meanings if you aren't too shallow to see beyond superficiality.
In this movie, the general idea is be a better parent, take care of the earth, and learn to face your fears. Nothing wrong with that. And it is sci-fi so it isn't supposed to be traditional and not everything is supposed to be believable.
It is science fiction. I say it's a great movie!
