Review of After Dark, My Sweet (1990) by Diana S — 04 Sep 2008
After Dark, My Sweet is such an intimate noir film, that it's success relies solely on the delivery. The acting in this movie is superb. It has to be, or it just wouldn't cut it. Jason Patric portrays a disturbed man who even though he can for see his doom ahead of him, stills goes along with it because of his innate desire to be "needed.
" The film's morality is as complex as life itself and ends with a heroism so subtle, you just might miss it. (Caution: There is a very explicit sex scene that, thankfully, takes up a whole chapter titled "Wild Hearts" on the DVD.
Skip it, and you miss nothing!).
