Review of A Sound of Thunder (2005) by Sam M — 28 Jun 2007
Don't judge this against the best of thrillers; judge it for what it is -- pure fun.
The plot and its time theory is debatable, but like all good science fiction, that's the point. It's theory -- there's no right or wrong, and to judge it on its scientific merits is asinine. The concept is not new, that a small change in the past has immeasurable impact on the present.
The acting is tolerable for the genre; seeing Ben Kingsley in this is funny, though. The man who played Gandhi shouldn't be in bubble gum like this. Neither should Ed Burns for that matter. But they do what they can with the material.
The effects are cool; the vision is fun. Pop some corn in the microwave and just have fun with this. To judge it seriously is to miss the point.
