Review of A Raisin in the Sun (2008) by Chris K — 26 Feb 2008
The teleplay was only salvaged by the amazing talents of Phylicia Rashad and Audra McDonald (Ruth). I like the fact that Lorraine Hansberry's play was given a fresh faced makeover and updated some what.
The fact remains that whilst Sean Combs is a musical contemporary of Madonna and like Madge, he is quite the musician and businessman he is yet terrible a actor. I kept thinking to myself "Why was Denzel Washington not considered for this role?" I've now watched A Raisin in the Sun, twice and have read the play an equal number of times.
Sydney Poitier gave the definitive performance in the film, and it would take an actor of equal facility (in acting) to match the original and the best. Sean is horridly under par. But.. at least we got to see two Tony Award winning actresses strut their stuff!
