Review of A Chorus Line (1985) by Acacia & — 16 Dec 2008
A Chorus Line is often considered to be one of the worst musical adaptations in filmdom, but I beg to differ. It's a pretty straightforward adaptation of the stage show, but when the show is this good, it doesn't matter.
The cast dances wonderfully and most of the singing is solid, as well. Michael Douglas does a great job as Zach, even though he spends much of the movie as a mere voice emanating from the darkness of the theater.
It's unfortunate that "Sing!" and "The Music and the Mirror" were cut, especially the former, as it's such a hilarious song, but I guess it wasn't really necessary. The final reprise of "One" was appropriately big and glitzy, and the movie as a whole is a success.
Plenty of good music and tight costumes, to boot.
