Review of 13 Assassins (2010) by Sam-Beau D — 14 Aug 2011
An epic tale of epic-y epic-ness!!!
I have not seen too many samurai movies, but I do believe I have just delighted in the creme of the crop. The best of the best. Because not only is watching 13 Assassins like patiently watching a wick burn slowly before blowing up two tons of dynamite, but it's like watching two tons of dynamite explode furiously, and from the ruble emerge a masterful work of art. There is a sense of purpose that is felt behind every swing of the blade, giving the viewer a true sense of the samurai that holds it. Delivering an icy sense of valor in the warriors that give their life to a cause, and showing the sacrifices that way of life truly entails. Recommended to everyone that enjoys great story telling, but does not have a predisposition against bloodshed... And a lot of it.
