Hal march, actor, gourmet and writer, was the son of tømmerhandler, the merchant, a lieutenant and later captain Anders Ove Brandt and wife Marie Elisabeth Lucas. After his abitur from the Gl. Hellerup, north of copenhagen in 1928, he underwent Skolescenens elevskole 1929-31 and made his debut on the 29. January 1929. He then had engagements at the dagmar theatre, the Betty Nansen Theatre and with the Co-Optimists. In 1928, he founded the Studenterscenen, as he was the leader for 1932. In the years 1934-35 and 1937-38 he was provinsteaterdirektør and in the season 1936-37 employed as general manager of Gerda Christophersen.
