After a year spent at the school of the rue Blanche (ENSATT) in 1979 in the class of Jean Deschamps, Jean-Philippe Puymartin completed his theatre studies at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique de Paris in the class deMichel Bouquet the following two years. In conjunction with an acting career that began in 1980 to 20 years on the boards of the Théâtre Edouard VII in Deburau deSacha Guitry in which he interprets with success the son of Robert Hirsch for two seasons before being hired at the Comédie-Française. Jean-Philippe Puymartin made his directorial debut with a first short film, Leo, in 1981, which won numerous awards, including Chamrousse film festival of humour and the Festival of Festivals in Paris. At the Comédie-Française, he interprets nearly thirty pieces between 1981 and 1994 (from Sophocles to Molière through Labiche and Goldoni under the direction of leading directors in scenes such as Jacques Lassalle, Otomar Krejča, Jean-Pierre Vincent, Jean-Michel Ribes...). He continues to make films during this period (most of them devoted to his relationship with the theatre, Fervor, Comédie-Française or Fervor, Jacques Lassalle), others to the world of fashion,Colours, Yves Saint-Laurent, or advertising. Since his departure from the Comédie-Française, and after a short stay in Los Angeles where he produced three documentaries on the artist, california (Ed Moses, Robert Graham and Tony Berlant), he continues to work as an actor in various shows staged by Jacques Lassalle (The Controversy of Valladolid Jean-Claude Carrière, Jacques Weber, Molière's The Misanthrope with Andrzej Seweryn, Medea of Euripides, with Isabelle Huppert, The Dance of mortd'August Strindberg and Mr X, said here Pierre Rabier, after The Pain of Marguerite Duras, with Marianne Basler, with which he has just completed a film shot of this piece, Mr. X, distributed throughout the year 2009 by drive-in Cinemas and also broadcast on France Ô at the occasion of the celebration of the may 8, 2009. He also played in 2009 at the Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne, and in 2010 at the tour, again under the direction of Jacques Lassalle, the adaptation of two new Raymond Carver (the " Chekhov in american "), grouped under the title Talk to me about love. In recent years, he wrote the artistic direction of the French versions of the films of Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis, Bryan Singer, J. J. Abrams and James Gray, among others.
