Review of Utopia (2013) by Paul A — 19 Nov 2013
The film is a bit of a mess with just a bunch of threads that don't come together. There's a tendency to emphasize emotive anecdotes rather than look at the underlying issues.
(There's a scene where he is shouting about a 47 year old who died of a heart attack, over a politician is talking about increased funding).
Also I can't help thinking Pilger quite likes getting screentime and being outraged. (The image of one of his interviewees who passed away, include Pilger himself).
I was quite shocked at how badly treated Aboriginals/First nation peoples were treated. There seems to be almost a denial of there existence.
For highlighting this alone, the film is worth seeing.
