Review of The Family (2017) by Larry S — 27 Sep 2018
Brutally stark realism in this feature debut of Venezuelan filmmaker Gustavo Rondon Cordova. After a fatal confrontation in a poor and crowded neighborhood outside Caracas, a man (Giovanny Garcia) and his rebellious and headstrong 12-year-old son (Reggie Reyes) must go on the lam to avoid violent retaliation.
To survive, they'll be forced to move from one job to another and sleep where and when they can. However, forced into these conditions together they will move somewhat closer to each other. This movie is not for the faint of heart, as the depressive and stark tone can be unrelenting.
However, the acting is most realistic and you feel like you're right there on the streets with the two protagonists. But don't expect any kumbaya ending here.
