Review of Silence (2017) by Liam M — 25 Jun 2017
A.
Scorsese's newest, and maybe, most personal film to date is a powerhouse of filmmaking mastery. He is able to form a beautifully crafted, emotionally heavy film through his painstakingly precise direction that makes every shot feel like it matters, not only to the characters and the audience, but to the history of Christianity. Both Scorsese and his cinematographer, Rodrigo Prieto, perfectly capture the beauty of Japan while also highlighting the danger looming over all who believed differently. Silence is without a doubt one of Martin Scorsese's best films to date adding another masterpiece to his incredible resume.
