Review of Silence (2017) by Farah R — 21 May 2017
It's baffling to see a dull, bleak, and boring film received such critical acclaim. Asides from Andrew Garfield's exquisite performance there's naught left to enjoy or experience in what could be one of Scorsese's least impressive work.
Silence is too bloated for its source material and continuously focuses on the portrayal of torture long after it's necessary. The story itself is insignificant so unless the religious plight of 17th century Japan is of any interest to you, it is extremely unlikely you are to find this film enjoyable in any way.
