Review of A Doll's House (1973) by Laura F — 12 Sep 2007
This adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's revolutionary play about the role of women in society and marriage is adequate but doesn't really work as a film. With little opening up (which, to be fair might not have worked), the movie lacks things like pacing that would make it a good movie.
Other than Denholm Elliot the acting is good but not spectacular, with Anthony Hopkins and Claire Bloom giving adequate performances, giving new meaning to the term "playing the part as written".
Worth a look, but nothing better; definitely works better on stage and the printed page than the big screen.
