Review of Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession (2004) by Stephen C — 05 Mar 2008
If your a film buff like me then this doc will blow your mind.
If your not then there is still plenty here to keep you interested.
In an era of boring movie channels that we have now I long for a channel like Z.
Programmer Jerry Harvey took huge risks showing films that had fallen off the radar or had been infairly lambasted by Critics.
He screened the full length Version of Leones masterful Once Upon a Time In America,The wonderful and hated Heavens Gate and more obscure films from directors Such as Claude Chabrol,Robert Altmanand ,and Visconti.
But while the story covers the Z channels daring ,it also shows that its Programmer Jerry Harvey was A driven man who would go into his own heart of Darkness and finally kill himself and his second wife.
With contributions from Tarantino,Altman and others this film made me crave a film channel that took risks as Z had done if only.
