Review of Yi Yi (2000) by Jessica F — 17 Jan 2009
Paragon of the kind of quiet pacing, voyeuristic style, and subdued sense of crisis I can only seem to find in certain Chinese filmmakers. Perfectly embraces the ordinary, and conveys loneliness, regret, and quiet resignation without ever being over-sentimental.
A leisurely three hours that, IMO, couldn't stand to lose minutes anywhere.
