Review of Winged Migration (2001) by Gymno F — 16 Nov 2008
One of my favorite documentaries. I saw it at the Auckland Film Festival in 2003 under the title "Traveling Birds". It was really hyped by the local film critics there at the time. Still I was a little skeptical about how much I would enjoy it even though I am a former Park Ranger.
I'm so glad I purchased a ticket before the show sold out. It is the only movie that I have ever been to where: there wasn't an empty seat in the theater; no one left until the end of the closing credits; and the film received a standing ovation when the curtain closed.
I would probably give it only 4 stars if I had seen it on a TV screen at home (which I later did). A must see if you enjoy nature and get the chance to see it on the big screen (which is probably a rare thing so many years after its release).
