Review of When We Were Kings (1996) by Michael W — 01 Jul 2007
My favorite documentary. Everyone, even people without a passing interest in boxing OR Ali, will be amazing by this movie. The editing tells an amazing story that encapsulates much more then just the boxing match that brought everyone to Zaire in 1974.
Nearly a music doc as well, it includes performances and very candid interviews with B.B. King, James Brown, The Crusaders, The Spinners and many others. Narrated, through interviews, by George Plimpton and Norman Mailer.
It took 20 years to be released.
