Review of We Have a Pope (2011) by Anderson B — 26 Oct 2011
There is an intriguing 'what if?' situation here but this is a film of 2 halves: one half is borderline farcical and surreal as the cardinals cope with the boredom with the help of a doubting psychoanalyst and the other is a more pensive mediation of faith and responsibility by the Pope elect.
While the narrative doesnt take the usual route and the cliches one would expect, it can also come across as half-baked and not thought through, especially the ending which feels abrupt and unfinished - or is this a typical European arthouse ending?
