Review of Wadjda (2012) by Jim F — 25 Apr 2013
The portrayal of Wadjda by the young actress is remarkably good. Almost documentary like in its realism. The director does a fantastic job of moving the story along at the same time showing the discrimination/conditions that women are forced to endure in a not very female friendly culture.
The portrayal is matter of fact and not overly shrill, a key to making the movie enjoyable. The story is the story, not the role of women in Islamic society. The latter is a backdrop and a sub plot of its own.
