Review of Vernon, Florida (1981) by Kyle S — 13 Jan 2011
If you identify to any extent with this lifestyle, it feels exploitative at first, but by its end, you realize, through the absence of narrative, that Morris is doing little more than playing the Great Illustrator.
At that point, it is eccentric, enamoring, and somehow poignant beyond belief. To me, these voices are instruments, their conversations are melodies, and collectively, they are their own Kind of Blue.
By the film's quiet end, amidst the distant sounds of the swamp, I daresay I was dazzled, even if unsuspectingly so.
