Review of Valmont (1989) by Karolina C — 06 Nov 2006
Colin Firth as a bad boy? May sound strange, but it works perfectly in this excellent movie based on the novel Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos, just as Dangerous Liaisons in 1988 and Cruel Intentions in 1999.
I have seen the latter and loved it, so I had high expectations on Valmont as well. The expectations were wholly exceeded. I am not a big fan of Annette Bening, but I must say I was impressed by her acting in this one.
In fact, all actors are excellent. Plots and schemes in 18th century France. Does it get any better than that?
