Review of Under the Shadow (2016) by Spencer K — 29 Oct 2016
This is a frightening and unnerving film that completely took me by surprise. It deftly blends the drama and horror genres together for a unique and frightening experience. The themes that are present here are important and the underlying social subtext of the film works in the drama part of the film, but works even better in the horror aspect of the film.
It's not only about this demon haunting a house, but of the metaphorical demons haunting a family and of a woman who seems to be lost at everything. It's an incredibly compelling character study, but it's also an extremely creepy and unnerving horror film.
Not only does it freak you out, but it makes you think. It's definitely a slow burn, but it's incredibly effective. This is one that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled. And in more ways than you think.
