Review of Topkapi (1964) by Monsieur R — 09 Nov 2010
The soundtrack is goofy, the camerawork is not the greatest and the cast is uninteresting. Other than that I suppose this could interest somebody. It barely held my attention.
Melina Mercouri, a French actress I just don't like. Maxmillian Schell has this goofy grin on his face most of time. Peter Ustinov is the only person that gives life to this long awaited robbery of a museum. Films like this give foreign productions bad press.
Peter Ustinov won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in director Jules Dassin's lighthearted thriller about five thieves (including Melina Mercouri, Maximilian Schell and Robert Morley) who undertake an "absolutely impossible" grand theft in Istanbul.
While having much praise from critics, I just don't know why.
