Review of Tokyo Decadence (1992) by Eric B — 07 Aug 2008
I'm probably meant to interpret this film in a different way, but the words Japanese women and S&M just sound too awesome to me to pass down a viewing. The film depicts a period of time when a nation has much wealth but increased detachment and the rich are looking for something more extreme.
You can see how the sex scenes show a certain state of mind and affect the lead who isn't a sex freak but a young college grad trying to make ends meet and searching for love. However, there isn't much in the way of character development and the ending is one of the worst in history.
It is overly ambiguous and probably just confused. Don't worry if you don't really get it. The first 40 minutes are astonishing, that's all I can say.
