Review of Toad Road (2013) by Matthew S — 24 May 2015
Jason Banker's debut is more of an experience than a horror film. That being stated, it is a truly haunting sort of Neo-American Gothic visual poem about addiction. Dark, haunting and quite disturbing -- this is an oddly crafted experimental film that cannot be easily forgotten or dismissed.
I find it hard to watch that his female leading actor, Sara Anne Jones, died of an overdose before the film was released. This tragic information has tainted this film in a way that makes it hard to watch.
But the way in which Banker made this film is unique, original and profoundly unsettling.
